RECREATION ALWAYS
SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 7:1-10
God saved Noah, his family and other living things from the flood.
REFLECTION
‘Recreation always’ is the theme for our reflection today. Concerning the context of today’s Scripture reading, the word recreation means the act of making something exist or happen again. the Key lesson is that the God who created the world continues to recreate our broken world.
In Noah’s time, the sin of humanity had so much corrupted the world to the extent that God decided to destroy it and recreate it by saving Noah and his family and other living things. Why did God save Noah and his family? “Then the LORD said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation. (Genesis 7:1). In other words, Noah and his family were the only righteous people before God in their generation. My dear friend, when God wanted to recreate the world through salvation in Christ, he found no one in that generation and the ones to come, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:16-17). It is important to note that Jesus supersedes Noah. That is why John 1:1-5 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1-5
God is always recreating the world and He is counting on all believers or true disciples of Jesus Christ to remain righteous as Noah and his family were so that God will continue to establish a holy nation through us. God promised not to destroy the world with water again but the world will surely come to an end when Jesus returns the second time. Before that happens, God is still involved in recreation always fixing this corrupt and sinful world through the righteous disciples of Christ in the world. The question is are you one of the righteous disciples of Christ God wants to use in the recreation of the world? Do you have a personal relationship with Christ and are you committed to your calling and new life in Christ? Are you worthy to be used by God as a righteous tool for the recreation of the world? To live a life of righteousness is a choice. Noah and his family lived a life of righteousness by pleasing God always and God chose them for His purpose in their generation. Do you represent righteousness in your generation for which God will select you into His everlasting ark (heaven) and for the purpose of recreation?
Another important point we need to acknowledge and critically pay attention to is that, when God planned to select the gender of the living thing for the recreation of the world, He did not change his original creation order. Remember in Genesis 2:27 “.. God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” When God was about to destroy the world with a flood, He followed the already established order, He did not opt for a homosexual order. God emphatically instructed Noah, “Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals, the male and his mate, and a pair of the animals that are not clean, the male and his mate, and seven pairs of the birds of the heavens also, male and female, to keep their offspring alive on the face of all the earth.” (Genesis 7:2-3) In other words, for the purpose of recreation and procreation, God created human beings and animals, male and female to keep their offspring alive. It is rather unfortunate that some human beings want to subvert God’s plan of recreation by practising homosexuality. Homosexuality is a crime against the existence of humanity, it is a selfish desire which does not lead to God’s will of recreation and procreation. Apostle Jude cautions us that “just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. (Jude 1:7) Let us continue to pray for our brothers and sisters who have fallen into this temptation to be delivered and we must clearly and forcefully condemn such practices as disciples of Jesus Christ. The youth of our generation must be watchful, prayerful and incline their hearts to the teaching of Scripture so that they will not be lured into the abominable act of homosexuality and other new sexualities being introduced to further corrupt the world with immorality. God’s desire is to recreate the world through a natural order, a world created for male and female living things. Shalom.
PRAYER
ALMIGHTY GOD, IGNITE IN US THE SPIRIT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS TO BE APPOINTED WORTHY TOOLS FOR THE PURPOSE OF YOUR RECREATION AND MAY WE OVERCOME THE UNNATURAL DESIRES OF THIS WORLD TO ESCAPE YOUR JUDGEMENT. AMEN
