WHO COUNTS FOR YOU? ( MATTHEW 15:32-39)
Jesus feeds the crowd after teaching them for three days.
REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection today is “who counts for you?” If something counts for you then the thing is of value to you. The theme therefore can be rephrased as who is of value to you? For Jesus, the salvation of human beings is the focus or centre of His ministry on earth. In other words, the salvation of humanity counts for Jesus. The words of Jesus in Matthew 15:32 shows that human beings are of value to Him or count for Him. “Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.”
Both our Spiritual and physical welfare count for Jesus. It is important to note that Jesus took care of the spiritual hunger of the crowd before feeding them physically. He spiritually fed them by teaching them for three days. We can safely say that Jesus was also of value to the crowd. To stay with Jesus for three days and to listen to the Good News means Jesus is of value to the crowd. My dear friend the person you spend most of your time with counts for you. Is Jesus your companion, Lord and Saviour? Do you spend time with Jesus daily through prayer and Bible study? Always remember that if Jesus counts for you, you will make time for him like the crowd who made time to spend three days with the Saviour of the world. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. (Matthew 5:6)
After the crowd had been fed spiritually for three days, Jesus goes ahead to feed them physically. “And Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven, and a few small fish.” And directing the crowd to sit down on the ground, he took the seven loaves and the fish, and having given thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. Matthew 15:34-37. Indeed, when you count for Jesus, He provides both your spiritual and physical needs. It is for us to trust, obey and follow our Master and Lord Jesus Christ for we are of value to Him and He knows our needs. The people came to hear the word of God and at the end they had they body nourished. Jesus indeed fulfils His promise when he said that “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33) My dear friend, does Christ counts for you or Is Jesus valuable to you? If He counts for you then He says “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. (Matthew 16:24-27) Shalom.
