YOU IN YOUR SMALL CORNER AND I IN MINE (GALATIANS 5:16-26)
Paul admonishes the Galatian Christians to walk in the Spirit and not by the flesh for the law is against works of the flesh and not against not of fruits of the flesh.
REFLECTION
You in your small corner and I in mine is the theme for our reflection. The theme simply means reflecting the image of Christ as believers wherever you are through the manifestation of the fruits of the Spirit. If you indeed want to make a difference in the world as a disciple of Christ then start from your small corner. Your small corner is your home, among your friends and colleagues at work and the society in which you live.
My dear friend, the desire of the flesh is strongly opposed to the desires and fruit of the Holy Spirit. When you live according to the flesh in your small corner then you are subject to the law because the law was indeed given to Moses to curtail the desires and works of the flesh. Most believers live a life of guilt because they are constantly being condemned by the law hence they are unable to make an impact as disciples of Christ in the small corner they find themselves. It is for this reason, Paul wrote that “For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:17-21)
You in your small corner and I in mine can make an impact in the world as believers if through faith in Jesus we allow the Holy Spirit to live in us and guard our steps. Paul admonishes us through His letter to the Galatians that “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.” (Galatians 5:22-26). The key question for our reflection is what are you known for in your small corner or what impact have made in your corner as a Christian, is it the works of the flesh or the fruits of the Spirit? Shalom
PRAYER
HOLY SPIRIT, HELP US TO MANIFEST YOUR FRUIT IN OUR SMALL CORNERS AS BELIEVERS SO THAT WE MAY BE THE LIGHT AND SALT OF THE WORLD. AMEN.
