A Psalm for Refreshing the soul
REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection today’s is sense of renewal. A sense of renewal is the act of extending the period of time when something is effective or valid or the act of renewing something or the state of being made new, fresh, or strong again or the state of being renewed
King David’s psalm gives answers from the Lord about life and our souls. In this psalm we find here the promise of forgiveness, redemption, and blessedness. In illustration it shows the life of a Christian, fellowship with God and life that exults in the Lord.
The hearts and souls of many are filled with hopelessness, hate, disappointment and ingratitude. The soul is the immortal nature God gave us yet due our sins the prince of this world has polluted it with pride, lust, fleshly desires. These pride, lust and fleshly desires have given birth to sin and slowly leading many to their death. For this reason we need to be renewed in our souls so that we can actually live to fufill the will of God.
A soul that needs salvation is a soul that calls out to the Lord. The Psalmist acknowledges the Holy Lord who is able to renew the soul. The Hebrew word for bless is bârak, which can also mean ‘to kneel’. Blessing the Lord therefore is to show total submission (this kneel) to him. The first step then for a sense of renewal is to submit yourself to God, the Holy one.
With this submission (bârak), you open up to all the benefits from the Lord, thus forgiveness, healing, redemption, love, mercy, good things and renewal ( vrs 3-5). Beloved, God is ready to breathe on you all his benefits for your complete renewal. He wants to deliver you from all the pain, hurt, disappointments and brokenness. Like the Psalmist, just bless the Lord, submit to him and he would give you a sense of renewal.
PRAYER
Holy Lord, we come to you in our emptiness. We come with hearts of gratitude blessing you for who you are and what you have promised to do in our lives, in Jesus name, Amen
