In a typical Jewish home and Jewish temple, lamp stand is always a common object. It is on these stands that lamps are placed for the room/house to be illuminated. Without the stand, the strength off lamps is compromised and many may walk and work in darkness. On the other hand, the olive tree representing the anointing and the anointed of the Lord is very key in accomplishing the purposed of God in a generation.

God’s purpose (vision) is always accomplished by those He assigned (anointed) for that purpose, provided they operate under the light of His Word and power. The vision in the Chapter 4 of the book of Zechariah is the fifth vision in series that the Lord revealed to His prophet to help the Israelites to comprehend the task that looks impossible and for them to have a clearer view of how to accomplish it. Beloved, in this vision, God is making it clear to his people that he is always present with them and that he has assigned people, and always have enough people empowered (anointed) to accomplished His assignment in all generations.

The prophet in answering to the angel said that “I see a lamp stand all of Gold……..seven lamp on it …and by it there are two olive trees……” (Zech.4:2-3). What one can see, to a great extent determines what one can accomplish. Beloved, what can you see? The golden lamp stand with seven branches represents the presence of God in the midst of His people. If God is with us, and He is the one providing the light and direction for the mission, the task cannot be impossible. Rebuilding the magnificent temple looked impossible, through this, God was telling the remnants that “it is not about you, it is all about me, just trust me. It is possible.” Are you faced with a situation where you feel your strength is insufficient? Is the mission God’s mission? The all-knowing and all-sufficient God is with you, tell yourself it can be done. No matter how difficult it looks, it can be done. The two olive trees represent Zerubbabel and Joshuah who are anointed to lead the remnants to rebuild the temple. Sometimes we think we don’t have enough human capital to carry out our assignment. By this vision, God seems to be telling the remnant that ‘ I have empowered enough people to see this project through, just listen to them.’ Our inability to accomplish great things in our age is not due to lack of human resource but lack of trust in them and ourselves. Friends, there is no limit to what can be accomplished by anyone anointed by God.

You may have an unlimited power to accomplish great things without knowing. God was telling Zerubbabel ‘Not by might, nor by power but my Spirit ………. what are you, O great mountains? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain.’ If God is with us, mountains are nothing before us. What is that mountain intimidating your life? God told Zerubbabel that it is not by your might nor by your power; it is by God’s limitless power. It you will lean onto the one who assigns and not your own strength, that mountain intimidating you will surely become a plain, for God is with us!

CONCLUSION
See, God is emphatically saying that, if we the olive trees will remain in the light of the lamp that is on the lampstand, our hands like that of Zerubbabel will start a project and see it to its completion, there will be nothing too difficult for us to accomplish. There is enough anointing (grace) to see us through. Just trust in Him.

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank you for this insight. Help me to always walk in the light of your Word. May I never be intimidated by the daily mountains of challenges, but with your presence (anointing) may they become levelled, that many may know that you are the Lord of all. Amen.
