The Lord will give salvation.
REFLECTION
Eternity of the new Jerusalem. Zechariah’s prophetic ministry highlights God’s intentions to have a covenant with Israel that encompasses Israel and all who will become part of the new covenant regardless of their nationality. It was important that Jerusalem, the city where the Holy Temple will be rebuilt become a place of hope and security for God’s faithfuls. It is for this reason Zechariah proclaimed that “On that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples. All who lift it will surely hurt themselves. And all the nations of the earth will gather against it. On that day, declares the LORD, I will strike every horse with panic, and its rider with madness. But for the sake of the house of Judah I will keep my eyes open, when I strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. Then the clans of Judah shall say to themselves, ‘The inhabitants of Jerusalem have strength through the LORD of hosts, their God.”’(Zechariah 12:3-5)
Beloved in the Lord, God’s covenant with us through Jesus Christ has made us adopted children and beneficiaries of the new Jerusalem. We are promised eternity of the new Jerusalem. The new Jerusalem is not centered on geographical location and the temple but is centered on the our salvation and the Kingdom of God that all believers regardless of their nationality or ethnic origin will recieve by virtue of their faith and relationships with Christ Jesus as our Master and Saviour.
You need nothing except Jesus to become part of the eternity of the new Jerusalem. Let us reflect on our relationship with Christ during the Advent season, repent and resolve to live a life dedicated to Christ only for in Him the eternity of the new Jerusalem is promised. John in Revelation 21:2-4 assures us that “…I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Shalom
PRAYER
Gracious Lord, continue to strengthen your faithful children to overcome the temptations and tribulations of the world even as we await the Advent of the new and eternal Jerusalem. Amen
