Jesus is the foundation on which we must build with care.
REFLECTION
Built with care is the theme for our reflection. To build a structure with care you need a skilled master builder who must ensure that the structure is raised on a solid foundation with good building materials which are able to resist hash and unforseen circumstances such as earthquakes, flood and fire. It is important to note that Paul wrote this portion of his letter to the Christians in Corinth to address division in the church.
Paul admonishes us that Jesus is the foundation of the church and every believer is a skilled master builder who has been saved by grace and called upon to contribute his or her skills, gift and effort to the development of the temple (body of Christ) so that God’s church will be built with care. It is for this reason Paul admonishes the Corinthians that “Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. ” (1 Corinthians 3:12-15)
My dear friend, what is your contribution to the development of your church? Is your contribution leading to division or unity among members and leaders of your church? Remember that the day of accountability will come when our work will be tested with fire. The Advent season offers us the opportunity to reflect on our stewardship and commitment towards the unity and development of the church as members and leaders. Whatever role you play in your church discharge it as a skilled master builder saved and called by grace. Ensure that you do your best to please God and not man. Do not follow factions and form political divisions in the church of Christ for at end, all that we have done may be lost on the day of accountability. Christ must return to meet us working towards a church built with care so that we shall be rewarded with the wages of eternal life. Shalom.
PRAYER
Holy Scripture empower us to work towards unity and growth of the Church of Christ. Grant us the spirit of discernment to identify divisive issues and factions in order to resolve them like master skilled builders to your glory and the development of the church. Amen.
