Peter reveals the identity of Jesus.

REFLECTION

On this rock is the theme for our reflection. A rock is the solid mineral material forming part of the surface of the earth and other similar planets, exposed on the surface or underlying the soil. It serves as a good foundation for a building. Jesus found Peter worthy of the rock upon which His church shall be built because Peter through his relationship with Christ and the inspiration of God revealed to Jesus that “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”(Matthew 16:16). Jesus replied “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

A careful reading of the book of Acts indicates that Peter indeed played a pivotal role in the establishment of the early Church. He was the first Apostle to publicly preach the Gospel after Pentecost and many people were saved to the glory of God. (Act 2:14-41). Truly, Prophesy was fulfilled and Peter became the rock upon which the early church was built. Remember, this was not Peter’s own achievement, the only thing Peter ever did was to respond to the call of Christ and Christ used him as the bedrock or foundation of His Church. Paul also served a similar purpose to the Gentile Christians.

My dear friend, for Jesus to make you a useful vessel and a blessing to your generation and posterity, you must have a relationship with Him. This relationship must lead you to completely surrender yourself to Him. You must experience the redemption power of Christ in your life and confess that truly Jesus is Lord and He is the Son of the Living God. Beloved in the Lord, how deep is your relationship with Jesus? Have you experienced the Lordship and Salvation of Christ since you became a Christian or a disciple of Christ? Avail yourself to be the rock upon which Jesus will expand His Church by using you to reach many lost souls this Advent season. The Advent season gives us an opportunity to examine our relationship with Christ and commit ourselves to Him again for Him to use us for greater exploits in the manner He used Peter and the other Disciples to expand the Kingdom of God. Shalom.

PRAYER

Here we are Lord Jesus, we confess that you are the Messiah and the Son of the Living God, use us as Your rock to expand your Church to the glory of God. Amen
