A prayer of deliverance from Assyrian invasion.
REFLECTION
A foundation for our time is the theme for our reflection. The purpose of a foundation is to provide stability to a building or a structure. Isaiah prayed to God entrusting the faith, hope and fate of His people into His hands. They were at the verge of an invasion staged by the Assyrian army. Isaiah stressed the point that although God’s people maybe under great distress and threat yet, “O LORD, be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our arm every morning, our salvation in the time of trouble.” (Isaiah 33:2)
My dear friend, it is important to note that God is our foundation upon which our lives are built and He provide us with absolutely stability in challenging times, for this reason 1 John 4:4 assures us that “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” Surely, our foundation is unshakable even with the severest earthquake. When our enemies conspire against us to threaten our peace and prosperity, when our enemies scheme against us to see us fall from honour to shame, we must always remember that we are not alone in the battle. “Thus say the Lord to you: Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God’s. (2 Chronicles 20:15)
We are further encouraged and strengthened with the words in Isaiah 33:5-6 that “The LORD is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness, and he will be the stability of your times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is Zion’s treasure.” In other words, God is not an absentee Land Lord, He dwells on high but completely in charge of the affairs of humanity and more importantly, He is interested in the salvation of His covenant people therefore, my dear friend, re-commit your ways and entire life into the Hands of God during the Advent season and beyond. God is faithful and He is our foundation and stability in times of battles and unexpected adversities. Shalom.
PRAYER
“… they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Amen (Isaiah 40:31)
