Zacchaeus met Jesus and was transformed.

REFLECTION

“I saw Jesus today” is the theme for our reflection. Jesus was largely known to His contemporaries as a great teacher from God who possessed power over unclean spirits. People heard about Him and yearned to see or have an encounter with him. Zacchaeus was one of such expectant fellows. Certainly, after Jesus’s visit, Zacchaeus will gladly boast to his friends and neighbors that “I saw Jesus today” It was a great fulfillment and joy for Zacchaeus to host Jesus in his home.

A sinner with a remorseful heart and hunger for salvation does not remain the same after seeing or encountering Christ. Zacchaeus met Christ and his life was transformed hence he said “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.” (Luke 19:8). My dear friend, what transformation have you experienced after seeing or encountering Christ in your life? This the essence of transformation and Salvation.

You maybe be born into a Christian family, baptized, confirmed and own a membership card of your church yet it is possible you still have not seen or encountered Christ. Unlike Zacchaeus your mind and heart maybe governed by sin although you have been attending Church for many months and decades. It is never late to repent so long as you are alive by the grace of God. The good news is that Jesus assures those who have not had a personal encounter or relationship with Him yet that “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10). The year is coming to an end, Jesus is still knocking on your door for you to have an encounter with Him. Zacchaeus ceased the opportunity and the grace made available to him even as a sinner. My dear friend, the choice is yours to make now! For those of us who have been saved by grace through faith in Christ, let us continue to encourage others and share the good news of our encounter with Christ with them. Shalom.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, our greatest joy is to proclaim our encounter with you and our Salvation in you to the world. May those who are still beyond the walls of Salvation encounter you and testify that “I saw Jesus today” Amen
