JEREMIAH 31:7-14 

EPHESIANS   1: 3-14 

John 1:1-9 

Human beings cannot do without light. Light enables us to see and move with certainty and accuracy from one location to the other. Just close your eyes and walk for just 10 meters, you will realise that you are unable to do so without a walking aid. Physical light is important for our use but it is not eternal, I introduce to you Christ, the eternal light and the light to all men. The theme for our reflection is Christ, the light to all men. We shall consider the following facts in relation to the theme and Scripture readings: 

1. A person is in darkness and without life until he or she allows Christ the light to come into his or life life. 
2. Christ brings restoration and hope to those who seek Him 
3. Christ, the Light is the source of spiritual blessings.  

Firstly, Christ is God’s promised light to the world hence a person remains in darkness and has no life until he or she repents and allows Christ the light to be His Lord and Saviour. In the third Scripture reading, John wrote that “In him(Christ) was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:4-5). My dear friend, you must have a personal relationship with Christ in the Year 2022 and beyond. If you do not have Christ as your light then you shall remain in darkness and without eternal life. You have the opportunity today to make Jesus your personal Lord and Saviour so that from 2022 and beyond your life shall never remain the same. Darkness is a symbol of sin. “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God. (John 3:19-21). Let Christ be your light and life! 

Secondly, Just like the remnant and the exiles of Israel were promised restoration and given hope in Jeremiah 31:7-14, those who remain faithful and allow Jesus the light to guide and lead them in faith even in times of adversity shall be restored and given hope. If you have faith and hope in Jesus, the light of all men you shall be like the faithful remnants of Israelites who were told by Jeremiah that, “They will come and shout for joy on the heights of Zion; they will rejoice in the bounty of the LORD—  the grain, the new wine and the olive oil, the young of the flocks and herds.  They will be like a well-watered garden, and they will sorrow no more. (Jeremiah 31:12). In others, no condition is permanent, hard times will come in 2022 but Jesus the light to all men shall restore your joy and give you hope if you remain faithful to him regardless of the struggles and challenges of life. Surely, Jesus the light to all men overcomes the darkness of fear and adversities! 

Thirdly, if there are any blessings you seek in 2022 then seek Christ and walk with Him, because Christ, the light to all men is the source of our spiritual blessings. Paul encourages us in His letter to the Ephesians that “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.  For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—  to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.  In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace  that he lavished on us”. (Ephesians 1:3-8) In other words, the spiritual blessings Christ, the light to all men brings are salvation, forgiveness and grace.  My dear friend without these blessings of salvation, forgiveness and grace our lives are incomplete, empty and meaningless. We shall remain in darkness and will not have “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding and guards our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7) 

In conclusion, beloved in the Lord, Jesus, the light to all men, has saved us from darkness (life of sin) into eternal life, He brings to His faithful believers’ restoration and hope, last but not the least, when we walk with Jesus we become beneficiaries of His spiritual blessings, which are salvation, forgiveness and grace. May the Holy Spirit empower us to remain faithful and walk with Christ, the light to all men in the year 2022 and beyond.  Amen.
