Zechariah’s prophecy.

REFLECTION

God will give light is the theme for our reflection. Light as used in our theme means Salvation. Jesus is God’s Light to those in darkness. It was revealed to John  that “In him (Christ) was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:4-5). Light is life and Jesus is the light.

When John the Baptist was born, his father Zechariah prophesied that He “… will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins,..” ( Luke 1:76-77). In others words, John will bare witness to the Light that God will give to the world. What will this Light do according to the prophecy of Zechariah? “…to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” (John 1:79)

My dear friend, God has fulfilled His promise to give us the Light, the Light Jesus is still at work in us through the power of the Holy Spirit. If you allow the Light to come into your life then you shall be saved from the darkness of sin and the shadow of death. Again, Jesus the Light of the world brings us eternal life and peace. Unfortunately some people hate the Light. “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God. (John 3:19-21). May Jesus continue to be our Light in the year 2022 and beyond. Shalom.

PRAYER

Father Lord, let Jesus, the Light of our Salvation forever shine in us through the power of the Holy Spirit so that we shall remain victorious over sin and death. Amen.
