The future glory of Israel.

REFLECTION

Wake up, arise and shine! is the theme for our reflection. God through Isaiah, reminded Israel of their status as the chosen nation upon which God’s light of salvation will shine and all nations shall come to this light. “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the LORD will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you. And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.” (Isaiah 60:1-3)

Jesus is the fulfilment of Isaiah’s prophecy, He is the Light that came upon Israel through His birth and ministry. Christ’s Light eventually spread throughout the gentile world and salvation came to people of different nations and race. You and I in Africa are also the fulfilment of Isaiah’s prophecy. The Light of salvation has come upon our lives through the European missionaries. We must not quench the Light of salvation in us by going back into the darkness of sin but must remain spiritually awake, arise from any slumber of temptation and continually shine for Jesus so that the world will testify to God’s glory upon us. “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16). Shalom.

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, empower us to wake up, arise and shine spiritually in the new year and beyond so that we shall be like servants watching for their Lord’s arrival. Amen.
