Paul’s thanksgiving and prayer for the Colossians.
REFLECTION
From darkness into light is the theme for our reflection. Darkness means sin and death and Light means life and salvation. The theme therefore means from sin to salvation or from death to life. Paul expresses his thankgiviing to God for the faith and salvation of the Colossian Christians and prayed to encourage them to remain in the newly found inheritance in the Lord. (Colossians 1:9-12)
Paul was going to address some important issues concerning false teachers, Christ’s superiority, the right way of living by focusing on heavenly things and living godly lives by looking to Jesus as the head of the Church. Before Paul proceeded with the above issues, it was important for him to remind the Christians at Colossae to appreciate his message or epistle as people who God “delivered from the domain of darkness and transferred to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom they have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:13-14). In other words, before we think and act, before we take every decision in life let us always be reminded that we are no longer children of darkness but of the light “so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;..” (Colossians 1:10). Shalom.
PRAYER
Holy Spirit, may You strengthen us to sustain our new status and identity in Christ as children of the light so that our daily living will please God, show our gratitude to Him and glorify Him for the rest of our earthly lives. Amen
