REFLECTION

The theme for our reflection is God’s blessings. Blessings are the gifts we receive from God that gives us satifaction, joy and peace in life. There are physical and spiritual blessings. The focus of today’s theme is on God’s physical blessings derived from nature or the environment. In other words, rain, grains, wine, oil and the like.

The Israelites were being reminded by Moses that God has a convenant with them to be their God. In this covenant God had promised to be their God and sustainer of their lives through His manifold blessings. Israel’s obligation under the covenant which will evoke God’s blessings and promises is to remain faithful to God and His commandments, thus “…if you will indeed obey my commandments that I command you today, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, he will give the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the later rain, that you may gather in your grain and your wine and your oil. And he will give grass in your fields for your livestock, and you shall eat and be full.” (Deuteronomy 11:13-15).

My dear friend in the Lord, God is the creator of the universe therefore nature is subject to His command, for nature to obey God for us to recieve its benefits we must fear and revere God by serving and worshipping Him genuinely with every aspect of our being. The commandments of God includes taking care of our environment in other to recieve its blessings or benefits. The world is battling with climate change and it’s devastating effects because we have refused to obey God’s commandments concerning our environmental stewardship, we have been disobedient to God and selfish in our dealings with nature. Let us continually study the Scripture and take note of God’s commandments and apply ourselves accordingly to recieve His physical blessings that comes from His gift of nature. Shalom.
