REFLECTION

Do not forget is the theme for our reflection. Do not forget is a warning or a caution to the person who has become ungrateful. The nation Israel had become wayward and rebellious and were no longer living according to the commandment and decrees of God. thus “…these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts; they have turned aside and gone away. ( Jeremiah 5:23)  It was important for God to appoint Jeremiah to warn them to repent and seek the face of the Lord to avert His judgment.

Jeremiah’s task was to remind the people not to forget who God is and the fact that He has dominion over the world and everything in it. My dear friend, do not forget your past when you become the beneficiary of God’s blessings. Remain faithful and grateful to God at all times.  Our life is like that of a farmer, we must not forget the giver of rain during farming season when the time of harvest comes. “They do not say to themselves,  ‘Let us fear the LORD our God, who gives autumn and spring rains in season, who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.’  Your wrongdoings have kept these away; your sins have deprived you of good” (Jeremiah 5:24-25). If we forget to acknowledge God as the centre of our lives and the source of our blessings and rather put our trust in mere mortals and the riches we have acquired then the Lord may deprive us of His blessings because of our ungratefulness. The new year is a year of gratitude and adoration because God has been faithful to us. Shalom

PRAYER.

Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. ”  Amen (Psalms 103:1-5)
