ISAIAH 6:1-12
1 CORINTHIANS 15:1-11
LUKE 5:1-11
Have faith in the Lord is the theme for our reflection. “Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1). To have faith in the Lord means to have confidence in Him and the assurance that He is our creator and sustainer of life although we do not see Him. We shall discuss three important factors for which we should have faith in Lord:
- We must have faith in the Lord because He made salvation available through Christ
- We must have faith in the Lord by responding to His call to serve Him
- We must have faith in the Lord because He provide our needs.
Firstly, it is important to have faith in the Lord because He saved us through His son Jesus Christ. Paul gave testimony about the Gospel and His salvation through his encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ who saved Him and made Him an Apostle. Paul recounted “ For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. (1 Corinthians 15:3-5) My dear friend in the Lord, if there is one reason for which we should have faith in the Lord then it is because we were once sinners but Jesus has saved us through grace. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith —and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:8-10)
Secondly, our faith in the Lord is demonstrated by responding to His call to serve Him. The Prophet Isaiah heard the call of God “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” Isaiah 6:8, To prove or demonstrate his faith in the Lord, Isaiah responded “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8). My dear friend in the Lord, the surest way to prove our faith in the Lord and to put our faith to work is to respond to the Lord’s call to serve Him. When the disciples had responded to the call of Jesus and believed in Him, He assured them that “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” (Luke 5:10). Isaiah and all other prophets and the disciples who later became Apostles were called to represent the voice of the Lord in the world declaring His salvation to all who will believe. It is now our turn to have faith in the Lord and demonstrate this faith by responding individually “Here I am send me!” We may extend this call to other services within the church and beyond therefore “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (Colossians 3:23-24)
Thirdly, we must have faith in the Lord because He provides for our needs. Before Jesus called his first disciples (Peter, James and John) he proved to them that when they believe in him and follow Him, he will take care of their needs. “When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon (Peter), “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.” (Luke 5:4-6). Beloved in the Lord “The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:24). You may have failed in your business or investment in the past year, you may have been struggling to make ends meet, poverty may have been knocking on your door but be greatly encouraged that when you have faith in the Lord and let down your net again by doing your best at what you know best or by making yet another effort, by His grace you will also experience your season of bountiful harvest like Peter and his companions who tried one more time on the instruction of Jesus the provider and were successful. Praise the Lord!
In summary beloved in the Lord, have faith in the Lord because in Him we have our salvation, have faith in the Lord by demonstrating your faith by responding to His call to serve Him with your whole life, last but not the least, have faith in the Lord because He knows our needs and provides them. May Lord increase our faith and make us serve Him until our last breath on earth. Amen
