REFLECTION
A good deed every day is the theme for our reflection. Good deeds are acts of kindness done to help a person or people in need. The question is how often should a Christian do good deeds? The answer is found in the nature and example of our Lord Jesus Christ, Peter bore testimony in his sermon that “… God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. And we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem.” (Acts 10:38-39)
My dear friend, we are and continue to be the beneficiaries of the grace and good deed of Christ, through His love and sacrifice we have been saved from sin and graciously granted eternal life. The world can only experience Chris in us when we extend His unconditional love by doing good deeds everywhere and every day according to our ability. It is for this reason when the Christians of Antioch heard about the impending famine and it’s negative impact on the world from the Prophet Agabus, “the disciples determined, every one according to his ability, to send relief to the brothers living in Judea. And they did so, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.” (Act 11:29-30) . Beloved in the Lord, our good deeds shall be judged by the Lord for “…they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” (Matthew 25:44-46) The hallmark of Christianity is love and the only way we can demonstrate love is to do a good deed everyday. Shalom.
PRAYER
Holy Spirit, strengthen us to be sensitive to the needs of others so that we may extend the transformative love we have received from Jesus to them through our good deeds. Amen
