REFLECTION

Disobedience hurts others is the theme for today’s reflection. Disobedience is failure or refusal to obey rules or someone in authority. Jonah failed to obey God and fled from His presence. Jonah’s disobedience made “…the LORD hurl a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship threatened to break up. (Jonah 6:4).

Eventually the mariners discovered that Jonah was the cause of their turbulence and trouble because of his disobedience, they said to him ‘ “What shall we do to you, that the sea may quiet down for us?” For the sea grew more and more tempestuous. He said to them, “Pick me up and hurl me into the sea; then the sea will quiet down for you, for I know it is because of me that this great tempest has come upon you.” Jonah 1:11-12)

There are times our disobedience hurts others. It is a sad reality we cannot deny. Think of a husband or wife infecting his or her spouse with a sexually transmitted disease because of the sin of adultery. There are some people in our prisons who were innocently lured into crimes they had no idea about by the people they trusted. Let us all endeavour to remain obedient and faithful to God at all times so that we do not become the source of pain or hurt in the lives of innocent people or people who love and trust us. Shalom.

PRAYER

Merciful Lord, help us to escape your wrath and it’s ramifications on us and the people close to us by strengthening us to remain faithful and obedient to you in all situations. Amen.
