REFLECTION

Jonah preaches-eight words is the theme for our reflection. To preach means to publicly proclaim God’s word. Preaching is an important divine assignment. It enables us to hear the voice and will of God concerning our lives.

It was Jonah’s turn to preach to the people of Nineveh and His message was only eight words, “…Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!”(Jonah 3:4). This eight-word sermon saved the lives of many from the impending wrath and judgement of God. When the people of Nineveh heard Jonah’s preaching, “…the people of Nineveh believed God. They called for a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them.” (Jonah 3:5). Beloved in the Lord, through the preaching of God’s Word or message we become life- saving agents and instruments of transformation in the lives of those who are perishing. God is still calling all faithful believers to be His mouthpiece in this broken world. Remember, we do not have the power to transform people but by His grace we have been chosen and consecrated as instruments of transformation through which God saves the perishing. It is for this reason Jesus assured us that “…All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20). You are the Jonah of our time, there is a Nineveh is out there which needs to hear your preaching and be saved. You can make a difference in someone’s life today just by sharing a word or two about the love of God through our Lord and Master Jesus Christ. Shalom.

PRAYER

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” Amen (Isaiah 6:8)
