REFLECTION
Jonah’s lesson from God is the theme for our reflection. A lesson is a useful piece of information learned through experience. God made Jonah experience a situation of loss and disappointment in order for him to appreciate the importance or value of human life. “And the LORD said, “You pity the plant, for which you did not labor, nor did you make it grow, which came into being in a night and perished in a night. And should not I pity Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also much cattle?” (Jonah 4:10-11).
To further prove that God places value on human life more than other creations, He created everything that human beings will need for their pleasure and sustenance before creating human beings to enjoy them and become stewards over them. (Genesis 1:27-31). The lesson Jonah leant is that, we must seek the welfare of our fellow human beings regardless of our differences. We are all God’s children therefore we deserve His mercy and love. We must not allow religious, political, racial and ethnic identities and affliations create divisions, enmity and hostility among us. God continues to call on all believers to be ambassadors of peace and the preservation of human dignity in the world. Shalom.
PRAYER
Dear God, cure us of any evil thoughts and sentiment towards our fellow human beings and let love, peace and reconciliation prevail in the world.
