LENT REFLECTIONS (DAY 24)

Don’t be anxious is the theme for today’s reflection. Being anxious is showing signs of extreme uneasiness or brooding fear about something unpleasant likely to happen. We can simply say being anxious is a state of uneasiness as a result of a real or perceived danger. More often than not, we become anxious about the things we do not have control over yet these things are likely to cause us injury or suffering when they occur. For instance, sickness, poverty, accident, job loss and other uncertainties of life that put us in a state of anxiety.

Paul teaches us a very potent antidote to overcome anxiety. This antidote is prayer. It is rather sad that most believers focus on the situations that causes them to be anxious than focusing on the antidote which is prayer in times of suffering. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

Through the antidote of prayer, our faith is increased and our hope is restored because our Redeemer lives and that His glory and peace is with us even in the midst of the storms of anxiety. Anytime the seen and unseen storms of life make us anxious and restless, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, we experience the presence of our Lord Jesus who rebukes the storm of anxiety just as He rebuked the storm when He was in the boat with His disciples that, “…Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. (Mark 4:39). My dear friend, no matter what life may throw at you, you may become anxious but do not despair for the peace of God overcomes the anxieties of our lives. Shalom.

PRAYER

Almighty to God, strengthen us to remain prayerful even in a state of anxiety. May we always be reminded of your peace and never-ending presence in our lives so that our faith and hope will forever be rooted in You for our restoration and salvation. Amen
