LENT REFLECTIONS (DAY 25)
Cast your anxieties is the theme for our reflection. To cast is an act of throwing something forcefully. To cast your anxieties means to throw forcefully your anxieties upon the Lord because they are burdensome. If there is a person to cast then there is another to who is stronger in might to receive or carry that which has been cast or forcefully thrown.
Peter encourages his audience who were Christians going through suffering on account of their faith in Christ. Peter reminds the recipients of his letter that since they were the disciples and children of God, they were not alone in their suffering, he therefore encourages them to “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7). Dear friend, we must understand that we are feeble or weak as human beings and are limited in our ability to endure anxiety. It is for this reason, we must use the little emotional, physical and spiritual strength left in us to cast our anxieties in prayer upon the Lord.
Anxiety cripples us emotionally, physically, spiritually and renders us hopeless but if we cast it upon the Lord, Peter encourages us that “the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power forever and ever. Amen.” (1 Peter 5:10-11) Whatever you are going through at this moment or time of your life, I need you to be rest assured the Lord understands your situation and will fight your battles for you, for “your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” (1 Peter 5:8-9). It is the devil’s plan to frustrate Jesus’s disciples and to cause them to despair and fall through the burdens of temptations, challenges and anxieties laid upon them. For this reason, Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6:12-13 that “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” Beloved, you have every reason to cast your anxieties upon the Lord for He has the power to overcome the orchestrations of the devil against your life. Shalom.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank you for giving us the hope, assurance and strength to always cast our anxieties upon you, for in you we find total liberation and restoration. Amen
