LENT REFLECTIONS (DAY 27)
You’ve got a friend is the theme for our reflection. A friend is one that is not hostile but shows love, affection or care. The actions of a person towards you proves whether he or she is your friend or not. Jesus puts it in another way that “For he who is not against us is on our side.” (Mark 9:40)
Jesus proved to John the Baptist that He is the dependable friend that anyone can count on. One does not necessarily need any further proof to ascertain what he or she will gain from his or her friendship with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. It is for this reason, Jesus told John’s disciples that “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.” (Matthew 11:4-6). In other words, Jesus assured John not to have any doubt in his mind because He is a dependable friend and Messiah whose mission is to liberate the oppressed. Dear friend, you’ve got a friend who loves you and desires you to be liberated from the bondage of infirmities. He again desires that anyone one who becomes His friend receives His gift of salvation and eternal life. Let us draw closer to our trusted and dependable friend Jesus even as we journey towards the end of the lent season. Very soon, we shall commemorate the ultimate prove of Jesus’ love for humanity during Easter. His love has brought us total independence from sin and given us power over Satan and death. The choice is yours to make, I believe you have seen and heard enough about what God has done, is doing and will do through Jesus for you. You need no further proof or argument to accept Jesus as your friend, Lord and Saviour. Shalom
PRAYER
Jesus our friend and Lord, continue to strengthen us through the power of the Holy Spirit and your Word to live a life worthy of our calling as your faithful friends and disciples. Amen
Jean-Paul Agidi
Kindly spend some time to sing and reflect on the song “What a friend we have in Jesus” written by Joseph M. Scriven and composed by Charles C. Converse
What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
And what a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer
Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer
