LENT REFLECTIONS (DAY 34)
‘Yet more miles to go’ is the theme for our reflection. ‘Yet more miles to go’ is an expression which metaphorically means having much to do in life before dying. In other words, we have much to do as servants or stewards of the Lord before His second coming.
Dear friend in the Lord, our lives are like that of the servants in Jesus’ parable which is the focus of today’s Scripture reading and reflection. We must be on guard and diligently make use of the life, resources and blessings the Lord has bestowed upon us. There are yet more miles to go therefore we must not relent but must be like the first and second servants who gave a good account of their stewardship when their master returned. The first servant who performed excellently well received his commendation and reward when the master said “Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.” (Luke 19:17), however the third servant who gave a flimsy excuse was punished and told that “everyone who has, more will be given, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. (Luke 19:26). There were even a third category of servant who hated their master and did not want him to reign. Their punishment was death sentence (Luke 19:27)
What kind of servant are you my dear friend, a faithful one, a lukewarm and lazy one or one who is against the reign of the Lord? There is yet more miles to go so long as you are alive today therefore “…love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30) Paul again encourages us in Phillipians 2:12-16 that “…my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that on the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain” Jesus assures through John’s revelation that “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” (Revelations 22:12) In other words, if we diligently discharge our duties as worthy stewards or servant of our Lord and Master Jesus we shall be rewarded but for now, let us remember that there is yet more miles to go therefore let us not relent in our commitment and love for the Lord. Shalom
PRAYER
Dear Lord, empower us through the power of the Holy Spirit to live like faithful servants or stewards who await the arrival of their master. Amen.
