LENT REFLECTIONS (DAY 36)

Telling the Good News is the theme for our reflection. The Good News is summed up in John 3:16 which says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Another important Biblical passage that captures the importance of telling the Good News is Matthew 28:18-20, “..All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Telling the Good News is an imperative for believers and disciples of Christ however, it may come with resistance. The resistance or opposition may come from within or outside church. Jesus’ authority was challenged by the chief Priest and his cohorts when He taught and preached the Gospel at the temple. The parable of wicked tenant shared by Jesus in Luke 20:9-18 indicates that telling the Good News does not come without resistance however God continues to empower and calls more people into His vineyard to preach the Good News but at the end will come and judge those who resisted and persecuted the preachers of His Good News. The question for our reflection is, are you a preacher of the Good News or an opposer of the Good News? Jesus has assured us that in Mark 9:40-41 that “For the one who is not against us is for us. For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward.” Shaom.

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, continue to make us instruments of transformation in our generation through telling of the Good News. Grant us victory over the enemies and opposers of the Good News
