LENT REFLECTIONS (DAY 38)

The theme for our reflection is, with the end in sight. With the end in sight means something will soon be ending or accomplished. Jesus revealed to His audience that the temple together with all the things they were seeing will be destroyed when the world comes to an end. (Luke 21:6-11).

The key lesson of today’s reflection is that as we continue to live on earth and acquire material things we must tread cautiously with the end in sight because “… these things that you see, the days will come when there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.” (Luke 21:6). Natural disasters have taught us that the expensive houses, cars and wealth we have acquired could be destroyed when we least expect it. Truly, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” (Matthew 24:35) With the end in sight, we are able to prepare spiritually to embrace the catastrophic events that will precede the end of the world. It should be noted that we are already experiencing some as mentioned by Jesus.

How do we prepare with the end in sight? Firstly, we must “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. (Joshua 1:8) We are not limited only to the Torah (the Law) as in the case of Joshua and the Israelites but by application, we must study and meditate on the entire Scripture as we currently have it for “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Secondly, we must “pray continually” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). These two preparations will enable us to be ready for the events that will happen before the end. Jesus described them when He said, “See that you are not led astray. For many will come in my name, saying, I am he!’ and, The time is at hand!’ Do not go after them. And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be terrified, for these things must first take place, but the end will not be at once.” Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven. (Luke 21:8-11) Dear friend, we cannot stop the end from coming but we can remain prepared with the end in sight even as we go around our daily activities. Shalom

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, strengthen us to continually incline ourselves to the study and meditation of the Holy Scriptures and remain prayerful with the end in sight. Amen
