REFLECTION

A kin-dom of every tribe is the theme for our reflection.  Kin refers to a group of persons of a common ancestry. It also refers to one’s family or relations. Kingdom and Kin-dom sound alike but the difference between the two words or concepts is that a Kingdom is a country, state, or territory ruled by a king or queen and kin-dom is a new concept that refers to all believers saved by Christ and through His atoning blood have become one family regardless of their tribes, race and class. A kin-dom of every tribe, therefore, refers to the believers or Christians who through faith are connected in fellowship through Christ. It is this big family or kin-dom that awaits the second coming of Christ to become the heirs of the Kingdom of God. In other words, a kin-dom of every tribe will be part of the Kingdom of God when Jesus returns the second and final time.

Jesus Christ is at the centre of the kin-dom of believers. It is for this reason “…the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb… sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.” (Revelation 5:8-10). In other words, through the blood of Christ people from every tribe and language and nation have become a kin-dom in the Kingdom of God. If we understand that we are now a kin-dom then we must live at peace with everyone and work towards justice and dignity of all human beings regardless of their ethnic group, race and class. It’s rather sad to see Christians from the same church divided on ethnic and political lines. In some parts of the world there are tribal wars and political unrest among people who share the same Christian faith. This cannot be a sign of a people who represent a kin-dom of every tribe in Christ. Christians must remain resolute in persuing love, peace and unity without compromising their faith by allowing ethnocentric sentiment to dictate their relationship with other people. The unconditional love of our Lord Jesus Christ is the only love that exists in the kin-dom of Christ. Anyone who is not part of the kin-dom of Christ cannot be part of the kingdom of God. If you find it difficult to accept and respect the dignity of people from other tribes or ethnic groups then you have disqualified yourself from becoming a member of the kin-dom of Christ Jesus. The choice is yours to make even as we await the Kingdom of God, be guided by your love of Christ.  Shalom

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, cure our world of tribal, political and racial inequalities. Grant us the revelation to understand that we are a kin-dom or one big family through Your blood and our baptism. May the Holy Spirit maintain our kin-dom and strengthen us as ambassadors of the Kingdom of God to bring the Good News of love, peace and unity among every tribe in the world through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
