REFLECTION

The ‘four horsemen’ is the theme for our reflection. The four horsemen represent symbolic signs or events that will precede the end time. The first horseman wears a crown and holds a bow while riding on a white horse. He represents conquest. The second horseman rides a fiery red horse carrying a large sword representing war and violence. The third horseman rides on a black horse carrying a pair of scales responsible for famine. The fourth horseman rides a pale horse responsible for death. (Revelation 6:1-8) Some parts of the world are already experiencing the calamity of the four horsemen which are conquest, war and violence, famine and death.

There is a great caution to believers to be on guard because, before the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, it will be a great period of tribulation and test of our faith. These signs have already been mentioned by Jesus during His earthly ministry. Jesus said that “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains. “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. (Matthew 24:4-13).

Dear friend in the Lord, regardless of the catastrophe of the four horsemen, we must remain hopeful and strong in faith for the Holy Spirit will grant us the strength to endure all the hardship that will be brought upon the world. Let us be mindful of the antichrist and his temptations to lure us into disobedience and the betrayal of our faith during the time of the great tribulation. Paul encourages us to “..pray without ceasing, (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Again, Jesus cautions us to “watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41). Beloved in the Lord, “do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish amid a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labour in vain.” (Philippians 2:14-16). In all these calamities, we must have hope that our Lord Jesus Christ will save and grant eternal peace and joy to those who remain faithful and resilient during the great tribulation. Many will die for the sake of the Gospel and their faith in Christ and will cry out in a loud voice, “…O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” Then they were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers should be complete, who were to be killed as they themselves had been. (Revelation 6:10-11) May we be part of the faithful servants or disciples of Christ in the white robe when He returns the second time to redeem us. Shalom.

PRAYER

Almighty God, grant us the strength to over the calamities of the four horsemen and grant us the grace to remain focused on our Salvation amid tribulations. Amen
