REFLECTION

A “new Heaven-Earth” is the theme for our reflection. A new Heaven-Earth is promised to believers who can endure the tribulation and temptations of this world. It is comforting and encouraging to know that our lives do not end with the destruction of this present heaven and earth. “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:1-4). In other words, the new heaven-earth brings eternal peace and joy to those who are suffering on account of their faith in Jesus Christ in this present world.

It is important to note that, the new heaven-earth is only for the faithful who have served God in truth and in spirit “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8). Dear friend in the Lord, the new heaven-earth represents the second life, which is the eternal life while hell represents the second death which is the eternal death where there will be suffering, “In that place, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth…” (Luke 13:28). We are in the era of grace, let us not take this grace for granted but repent and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour and live to honour God for the rest of our lives to have a place in the new Heaven-Earth. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’” (Revelation 3:20-22). Shalom

PRAYER

Merciful Lord, deliver us from the bondage of sin and let the Holy Spirit strengthen us to endure the tribulations and temptations of this world so that we shall become the heirs of the new Heaven-Earth.
