REFLECTION

The theme for our reflection is a God with ears. Will God create us with ears and not hear Himself? The answer is an emphatic no, it is however important to note that God is merciful to all His creation and blesses them with the common necessities of life but God hears the call of those He has a covenant with. In other words, God hears those who make Him their God and put their trust in Him. It is for this purpose, “During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God. And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel—and God knew. (Exodus 2:23-25).

Job also believed that God hears prayers, therefore ” he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my children have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts.” Thus Job did continually. (Job 1:5) Similarly, Hannah also proved that we serve and pray to a God with ears when said “Oh, my lord! As you live, my lord, I am the woman who was standing here in your presence, praying to the LORD. For this child, I prayed, and the LORD has granted me my petition that I made to him. Therefore I have lent him to the LORD. As long as he lives, he is lent to the LORD.” (1 Samuel 1:26-28) Dear friend in the Lord, even friends and family who are close to us may not either hear or understand our needs and challenges but our ever-present and invisible God hears our prayer. The only sure way to connect to God is through faith and prayer. It is, for this reason, Hebrews 11:1-3 assures us that “faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith, we understand that the universe was created by the word of God so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.” In other words, when a man or woman of faith prays, there is a covenant keeping God with ears that hears. Shalom

PRAYER

Almighty God, increase our faith to believe that you are not an absentee landlord but a God with ears, “… our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear…” Amen (Psalms 46:1-2)
