REFLECTION

A sound of  tumult is the theme for our reflection. A tumult is a a loud, confused noise, especially one caused by a large mass of people. The prophet Ezekiel experienced the glory of the Lord through a vision of celestial beings. This vision came to him while he was in exile at Babylon with other captives. Although there were remnants in Israel, God decided to reveal His glory to Ezekiel who was in a foreign land thereby calling or appointing him a prophet to bring hope to both the Isrealites in captivity in Babylon and the remnants in Israel.

The vision and the glory of God revealed to Ezekiel signify that although Israel was being punished for their disobedience, the presence of God was still with them through those He had appointed to be His servants. “And under the expanse their wings were stretched out straight, one toward another. And each creature had two wings covering its body. And when they went, I heard the sound of their wings like the sound of many waters, like the sound of the Almighty, a sound of tumult like the sound of an army. When they stood still, they let down their wings. And there came a voice from above the expanse over their heads. When they stood still, they let down their wings. (Ezekiel 1:23-25). In other words, Ezekiel had been an assurance and hope that presence of God has not departed from His people, even in a foreign land where they are captives He is with them. The sound of the tumult from the wings of celestial beings was as loud as the sound of an army. This is a sign of victory and hope over their enemies. All that was required of the Israelites was to listen to Ezekiel and put their trust in the Lord and turn to Him for their holistic or total redemption.

The lesson for today’s reflection is that, God’s glory does not fully depart from a people He has a covenant relationship with. He finds those who are still faithful to Him and He revealed His glory to them to bring hope to those who are in captivity because of their sins or disobedience. Today, the Holy Spirit represents the glory of God in our lives. Although we may fall into the captivity of sin and its ramifications, there is hope that when we call upon the Lord through repentance and make Jesus our Lord and Master, God’s glory or presence shall be fully restored in our lives. It is important to note that without the glory of God in our lives, our lives are empty, hopeless and meaningless. It was for this reason at every given time in the lives of the Israelites the Lord reveals His glory to His faithful servants and calls them to be prophets so that through them, He will speak to His people and show them the way to their restoration. May you  continue to experience the glory of the Lord in your life even in the most precarious time of your life and in a sinful generation. Shalom.

PRAYER

Lord, take not your glory from us but even when we find ourselves in captivity of sin may Your presence be revealed to us for our redemption. Amen.
