REFLECTION
Divine destruction is the theme for our reflection. Destruction is the action or process of causing so much damage to something that it no longer exists or cannot be repaired. Divine destruction is damage caused by God when He takes away His glory or Spirit from us as a result of our unrepentance. Ezekiel narrated in today’s Scripture read his vision of God scattering burning coals over the city and taking away His Spirit and glory from the Temple which is the centre of spirituality or the divine place where the people of Israel experience the presence of God. “Then I looked, and behold, on the expanse that was over the heads of the cherubim there appeared above them something like a sapphire, in appearance like a throne. And he said to the man clothed in linen, “Go in among the whirling wheels underneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with burning coals from between the cherubim, and scatter them over the city…Then the glory of the LORD went out from the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubim. And the cherubim lifted up their wings and mounted up from the earth before my eyes as they went out, with the wheels beside them. And they stood at the entrance of the east gate of the house of the LORD, and the glory of the God of Israel was over them.” (Ezekiel 10:1-3, 18-19). In other words, before Israel was physically destroyed by the Babylonian, Ezekiel witnessed divine destruction or the glory of the Lord taken away from Israel.
The sin of Israel or their disobedience led to their divine destruction. When a city or person is divinely destroyed it means they lack God’s protection and have become vulnerable. It is easy for the enemy to attack us physically and spiritually when we have experienced divine destruction. The only thing that leads to divine destruction is unrepentance and unrighteousness. In Leviticus 19:2 Moses was told by God to “Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy.” Paul again reminds us that “For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you. (1 Thessalonians 4:7-8). The greatest tragedy of mankind is to experience divine destruction from God our maker because of unrepentance. Let us repent and approach His throne of grace for forgiveness and divine restoration through our Lord Jesus Christ. Shalom.
PRAYER
Dear Lord “Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.” Amen (Psalm 51:11-13)
