REFLECTION

Valley of dry bones is the theme for our reflection. The valley of dry bones is a vision or revelation given to Ezekiel by God which signified the hopelessness or despair of the exiled Israel and the promise of their restoration and return to their land by God. God said to Ezekiel “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut off.’ Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I will open your graves and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will bring you into the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the LORD; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the LORD.” (Ezekiel 37:11-14)

Dear friend, sin and disobedience leads us into a state of hopelessness because the Spirit of God no longer lives in us. When the Spirit of God leaves us as a result of sin we become like dry bones. We are exiled far away from God, cut off from our source of life, joy, peace and blessings. However, there is hope! Like the exiles of Israel whose lives were synonymous to the dry bones in the valley but were restored to life, the Lord is calling upon us to seek Him so that we shall also be revived and our lives fully restored. We are greatly encouraged in 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 that “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.” Again, the Psalmist reminds us that when we call upon the Lord He will revive us from our dry bones situation into a situation of life when he wrote that “Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.” (Psalm 107:19-20). The choice is yours to make today, in humility and repentance call upon God through our Lord Jesus Christ and your dry bones shall be revived through the power of the Holy Spirit. Shalom.

PRAYER

Almighty and merciful God, we acknowledge that spiritually and morally many are in the exile of sin and have become dry bones in the valley. We humbly pray that You “Restore us again, O God of our salvation, and put away your indignation toward us!”(Psalm 85:4) May we alway live a transformed life that glorifies your Holy name. Amen
