REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is the Golden rule. The golden rule is captured in Leviticus 19:18 as “…you shall love your neighbor as yourself…” (Leviticus 19:18). In other words, Jesus explained the golden rule as “… in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12)
The golden rule ensures that everyone is treated equally with dignity and respect. The golden rule must be applied with empathy in our daily interactions with one another. Imagine how peaceful and beautiful the world will be if we think of the welfare of others even as they also do same for us. The golden rule must be applied in our marriage, family life, business and social life. We must learn to share our food and shelter or be ready to help those who are in dire need because no condition is permanent in life, we may find ourselves in their situation tomorrow or may also be at the receiving end because of our vulnerability in the future. This is the essence of the golden rule. The story of the good Samaritan is a classic example of the application of the golden rule. Be merciful today because you will also need to be shown mercy sooner or later. Shalom.
PRAYER
Holy Spirit strengthen us to genuinely love and treat others with dignity and respect and may we also be beneficiaries of the golden rule. Amen.
