REFLECTION

Advocating through God is the theme for our reflection. To advocate means to defend or maintain a cause. It also means to support or plead or speak for someone or a group of people. God called Moses to be an advocate for the liberation of the Isrealites who were in slavery in Egypt. Originally, Moses was the only one called to be an advocate for his people but for his excuse of not being able to speak efficiently in public, Aaron had to join him as his spokesperson. “Moses said to the LORD, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” (Exodus 4:10). God rejected his excuse and said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” But he said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.” Then the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses…” (Exodus 4:11-14)

Dear friend in the Lord, it is important to know that when God calls you for ministry or service, he calls you with your strength and weaknesses, He calls you together with your abilities and disabilities. The most important thing required of you to do is to avail yourself and the Lord will equip you. When Jeremiah was called to be a prophet he gave an excuse that he was only a youth, but God told him “Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the LORD.” (Jeremiah 1:7-8) When Jesus sent His disciples to go and propagate the Good News and baptise those who will believe, He knew they had their individual and colloctive weakness or challenges therefore He assured them that “…behold I am with you always to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20) Again, Jesus knowing the weaknesses of His disciples, He assured them that “… I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17

Beloved in the Lord, be rest assured that your disability is not your inability, your strength comes from God therefore put your trust in Him and rely on Him to fulfill your calling and purpose in this world. Replace your excuses with prayer, replace your self-doubts and low self-esteem with courage, hope, faith and action. You may never know or understand your purpose in God’s econom until you take a step of faith by saying ” Here I am Lord, use me for your glory!” The Lord needs you and I to be His advocates in a world filled with economic injustice and abuse of the less privileged. Let us not give excuses when we are have an opportunity to serve the Lord by advocating through Him to deliver others from bondage whether physical or spiritual. Shalom.
