REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “first, make your boat…” God decided to destroy the earth with a flood because of the overwhelming evil or violence being perpetuated by humanity but Noah who was a righteous man found favour with the Lord therefore the Lord said to Him “I have decided to destroy all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch…But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.” (Genesis 6:13-14,18).
Beloved in the Lord, the world may continue to be filled with evil or wicked people who have no reverence for God and respect for human dignity. Indeed, there is so much insecurity in our world. Kidnapping, suicide bombing, contract murders, armed robberies and gun attacks at public places. Some few weeks ago, we heard about the brutal murder of some Christians in Nigeria who were peacefully worshipping. The question is what is the fate of God’s people amidst the chaos and insecurity in the world. The answer is, God cares about us! Just like Noah and His family, God’s children and Jesus’ disciples in this generation are to first, make a boat of salvation. Noah and his generation were saved because God made a covenant with Him and provided them with a boat of salvation. In our time and age, we need not necessarily make a physical boat to escape the judgement and wrath of God, our boat is a spiritual one, our boat of salvation is in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. Once we have a covenant with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, we have made for ourselves, a boat of salvation. It is for this reason Jesus assures us that “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:16-17). The key lesson for today is that no matter the evil and wickedness we are experiencing in this world, we are to keep focused on our relationship with God, for in Christ, we have our boat of salvation. We are further assured by Paul in Romans 8:37-39 that “… in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Shalom
PRAYER
Lord, we are helpless without you. In you we find comfort and security. Continually protect us and may we always rest and abide with you in your boat of salvation even as we journey through this chaotic world of darkness into your eternal life. Amen.
