REFLECTION

Slave transport is the theme for our reflection. Israel is cautioned by Moses to obey God and follow His commandment in their new covenant relationship with Him else they will suffer and be transported back to Egypt as slaves. “And the LORD will bring you back in ships to Egypt, a journey that I promised that you should never make again; and there you shall offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there will be no buyer.” (Deuteronomy 28:68)

Dear friend in the Lord, a slave is considered a property. Once bought and transported he or she becomes the property of the new owner and must remain obedient. It is for this reason, Paul reminded the Corinthian Christians that “…You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” (1 Corinthian 6:19-20). In the matters of faith, the believer has two options, he or she can either be a slave to sin and die or be a slave to God and live. Moses cautioned Isreal to be watchful less they become slaves to sin or disobedience and thereafter suffer the consequences in the hands of their colonial masters, Egypt. Beloved in the Lord, It is better to be a slave to God and be liberated from Sin than to follow the deceitful liberation promised by the life of disobedience and die in sin. Paul makes the point clearer when he wrote that “…For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:19-23). In other words, let us remain slaves to Christ by living a life of righteousness and have eternal life than continue to be slaves to sin and be transported into hell and eternal suffering. You still have the two forms of slavery available to you, the choice is yours to make. May the Lord grant you the discernment, wisdom and grace to be transported from the slavery of sin into the life of transformation and slavery in Christ Jesus. Shalom.

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, rescue us from the slavery of sin and suffering and transport us back into the loving hands of our Lord Jesus Christ as His bonded slaves, for in Christ, we have total transformation, liberation, joy, peace and the fullness of life. Amen.
