REFLECTION

A ship for a baby is the theme for our reflection. Moses was born at a time where male Jewish babies were unwanted in Egypt. The mother could not stand the murder of her son by the Egyptian authorities therefore she hid him for three months. “When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes and daubed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds by the river bank. And his sister stood at a distance to know what would be done to him. Now the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river, while her young women walked beside the river. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her servant woman, and she took it. When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby was crying. She took pity on him…” (Exodus 2:3-6).

A ship is steered with a rudder to a desired direction yet Moses’ mother built for him a ship without a rudder. It means Moses’ life was in the balance, the wind could have tossed him to any direction, no wonder “his sister stood at a distance to know what would be done to him.” Guess what? God steered Moses’ rudderless ship to his saviour and benefactor, the daughter of Pharoah. Moses was saved and brought back to the mother and later lived a life of a prince. Moses moved from the clueless and rudderless ship to the palace!

Dear friend, some people are born into luxurious ships sailing in the river of prosperity, their lives are sailing towards a desired and prosperous destination yet others like Moses are born into a situation which can be described as a rudderless ship. Their lives are neither guided nor sustained by something that gives them hope of a brigher future. I want to assure you that our lives are in the hands of God. Whether your life is in the ship with a desired destination or not, God continues to be faithful to those who are called by His name. For He has promised that “…“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” (Isaiah 43:1-3) He is the covenant keeping God whose glory and grace are ever sufficient to steer us to where He deems it fit for our peace, joy, development, growth and prosperity. Let us put our faith in our God for He is the God who steers the rudderless ship to a destination of hope and prosperity. Shalom.

PRAYER

Almighty God, like Moses, steer our lives to a destination of hope and prosperity and may we always trust You as the Captain of our ship even if it hard to see where our rudderless ship leads us. Amen.
