REFLECTION
A busy traveller is the theme for our reflection. There are different reasons for which people travel. Some travel for the purpose of tourism and leisure. Other people also travel for business. In today’s reflection Luke writes about Paul’s missionary travels from one place to other to spread the Gospel and to strengthen the disciples of the Lord for the greater works. “…And they came to Ephesus, and he left them there, but he himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews. When they asked him to stay for a longer period, he declined. But on taking leave of them he said, “I will return to you if God wills,” and he set sail from Ephesus. When he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the church, and then went down to Antioch. After spending some time there, he departed and went from one place to the next through the region of Galatia and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples” (Act 18:19-22)
Dear friends, we shall observe that Paul the busy traveller did nothing new, he was only following the footsteps of his master, our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was also a busy traveller when He came to preach the Good News and to show us the way to the Father, Luke wrote that “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. And we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem…” (Act 10:38-39). Jesus confirmed the fact that He was a busy traveller for the sake of His Father’s mission and will when He said to a scribe who wished to follow him that “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.” (Matthew 8:20-22). Beloved in the Lord, the life of a Christian must be the life of a busy traveller who is always on a mission for God. Regardless of wherever we find ourselves, we are messengers and busy travellers of Christ spreading the Gospel and encouraging others in the faith. In other words, we must be good stewards of our time on earth and use the opportunity and grace available to us to do the will of the One who first loved us and saved us. The questions for our reflection are; are you an idle and carnally minded traveller or a busy and faithful traveller determined to do God’s will before your journey on earth comes to an end? What account will you render to your maker when your journey on earth comes to an end? As you travel through the world, let your life reflect the perfect image of Christ and remain a busy steward and traveller for our Lord Jesus Christ. Shalom.
PRAYER (Today’s prayer is a hymn written by Francis Ridley Havergal)
Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose,
Every power as Thou shalt choose.
Take my will, and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.
Amen.
