REFLECTION
Who needs a boat? is the theme for our reflection. A boat is a small vessel for travelling over water, propelled by oars, sails, or an engine. Jesus’ disciples were destined for Capernaum without him in the boat. In the course of the journey, “The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.” (John 6:18-21)
Dear friend in the Lord, the inspirational lesson for today’s reflection is that, we cannot journey alone in the boat of life while on the stormy and turbulent sea of life without our Lord Jesus Christ. We necessarily need a boat but the boat cannot guarantee our security or safety because it is always at the mercy of the sea and the storm. Regardless of the boat and its associated perils or challenges as a means of transport, it was probably the only way the disciples could get to Capernaum, however, Jesus’ journey to Capernaum was not dependent on the boat because He has the power to walk on the sea. Neither the sea nor the storm have power over Him, indeed He is the Lord of the sea and the storm. With this knowledge and assurance, we are greatly encouraged that we are not alone in the boat and the stormy sea of life. When the sea of life becomes rough and turbulent because of strong winds, and our boats or lives become unstable and difficult to manage, Jesus, knows where exactly we are and understands our situation. He does not need a boat to rescue us therefore He gives us the assurance that in every difficult or challenging situation we find ourselves He is with us and He says “It is I; do not be afraid.” (John 6:20). Jesus again assures us during the great Commission in Mattew 28:18 that “… behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Beloved in the Lord, who needs a boat? The answer is, we human beings need a boat, Jesus does not need a boat because He is God and He is always with us to keep us safe and lead us to the final destination of life. No matter how unstable or difficult your situation maybe become, in God, we trust! Jesus shall calm the storm therefore fear not, rise up with hope of a brigher future and keep focused on the goal of achieving greater heights amidst today’s challenges. Shalom.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, take control over our boats and navigate us through the perilous sea of life to the eternal life. Amen.
