REFLECTION
Seize the day is the theme for our reflection. Seize the day means make the most of the present moment or one should enjoy life while one can. King Solomon examined life and advised that “Enjoy life with the wife whom you love, all the days of your vain life that he has given you under the sun, because that is your portion in life and in your toil at which you toil under the sun. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.” (Ecclesiastes 9:9-10). Most often than not, during the funeral of a close relative or friend, we mourn with regret because we hardly siezed the day in spending quality time or enjoy life together with the person.
Dear friend after working 6 days in a week, what next? Life is short, it is for this reason we are being advised to seize every opportunity after our toil to make time to enjoy the fruits of our labour with our spouses, family and those who matter in our lives. In our current dispensation people are practically toiling for money, when they find it they hardly enjoy it because they are still working hard to find more! Until we learn to live a life of contentment we will hardly acknowledge God’s blessings which are meant to be enjoyed with our spouses and indeed our family and friends. It is also important to remember the less privileged in our societies. We shall discover that God gave us a simple life to live yet we have made it complex for ourselves hence people are working and getting rich yet they are continually stressed and depressed because they lack the wisdom of time management. Time management that requires them to rest and make time for pleasure and the fulfillment that is derived from the gift of relationship. Life is all about God, relationship, work and pleasure. If you only work, work and work then you are most likely going to have a boring and melancholic life. Seize the day to live a balanced life, work with all your ability, give God the glory, enjoy the money you have made or making with your spouse, travel places, eat a balanced diet, celebrate by eating and drinking with moderation. After all, death will bring life to an end sooner or later, we will no longer have the opportunity to do all the above again. Stop using work and business as an excuse for not making time to rest and enjoy life with family and friends! Seize the day before the days of your life come to an end through accident, sickness or ageing when you will with regret, say “if only I had known”. We have only one priceless life to live on earth, seize the day and make the most of the moment for that is God’s gift to you. Shalom.
PRAYER
Dear Lord grant me the wisdom to seize the day and do that which is most needed to live a balanced and fulfilled life to the glory of Your Holy Name. Amen.
