REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “of mustard seeds and yeast”. The mustard seed starts as a tiny seed, but when properly cared for, it grows large. Similarly, yeast is a leavening agent that causes bread to rise. In both scenarios of the mustard seed and yeast, we appreciate the fact that their beginnings are initially unnoticeable but eventually they become significantly noticeable as they grow and expand respectively.
Jesus compared the Kingdom of God to the grain of mastard seed and yeast (leaven) when He said that “ …What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.” And again he said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God? It is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened.”(13:18-20). Jesus meant that the Kingdom of God has been inaugurated on earth by Him and like the mastard seed and yeast (leaven) it will steadily grow and expand to the benefit of those who believe in Him. The Church is part of the Kingdom of God on earth and also represents the mustard seeds and yeast therefore continues to grow and expand.
Regardless of the fact that the kingdom of God is expanding, some people will not be part of its future glory. It is for this reason, when “someone said to him, “Lord, will those who are saved be few?” And he said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.” (Luke 13:23-24). Those who will not be to able enter the Kingdom of God are the evil doers who pretend to love the Lord and serve Him, …But he will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of evil!’” (Luke1 13- 26-27). Always remember that as a believer or a Christian you are part of the ever expanding or growing Kingdom of God, therefore be faithful to the end. Paul explained it further when he wrote that “… our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.” (Philippians 3:20-21). Shalom.
PRAYER
Holy Spirit, guide our steps and help us to remain faithful to our Lord Jesus Christ so that we shall forever remain citizens of the ever growing and expanding Kingdom of God. Amen.
