REFLECTION

Wisdom from the Spirit is the theme for our reflection. Paul explains the difference between earthly wisdom and wisdom received from the Spirit of God.

Wisdom from the Spirit helps us to solidly root our faith in the power of God and not human wisdom or reasoning. Paul said “…my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:4-5)

It is impossible to fully comprehend the depth of God’s Word with human or earthly wisdom. Our human wisdom which is a combination of knowledge of the world and experience is limited in understanding the things of God. It was for this purpose Paul explains that “Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual. ” (1 Corinthians 2:12-13) Jesus knew that the wisdom and lessons He taught His disciples were sometimes beyond their comprehension therefore He assured them that “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” (John 16:12-13)

It is important to mention that believers who earnestly ask God for divine wisdom will be given. In Acts 8:26-40 we learn that An Ethiopian Eunuch had shown interest in the Scripture but He lack the Spirit wisdom to understand it therefore ” the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him…”(Act 8:38-31). We are assured in James 1:5 that “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” Dear friend, without wisdom from the Spirit of God we shall become gullible and fall prey to faulty and deceptive philosophies, teachings or doctrines that will lead us astray from the path of Salvation. There are myriads of teaching and philosophies from time immemerial up to the twenty-first century questioning the authenticity of the Scripture as the Word, Wisdom or revealed truth of God. We need wisdom from the Spirit of God to enable us overcome the wisdom of the world and also to please God in every aspect of our Christian lives. Shalom
