REFLECTIONS
“Unite with the Lord” is the theme for our reflection. Paul addresses the issue of sexual immorality in the Church of Corinth. “Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. (1 Corinthians 6:15-17). Dear friend in the Lord, once we become regenerated or born again or baptised into Christ we have become united with Him and therefore have become the temples of God. Being united with the Lord means that our lives are inseparable from Him,“for in him we live, and move, and have our being” (Act 17:28). It is for this reason Paul admonishes us again through his letter to the Corinthians that “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. (1 Corinthians 6:18-20) Paul again adomonishes that “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. (Ephesians 5:1-5) In other words, we cannot make heaven if we are not united with the Lord.
PRAYER
Holy Spirit, strengthen us to remain united with the Lord always and may we forever dedicate our bodies to the Lord as His temples. Amen.
