REFLECTION
“The Ark brought to Jerusalem” is the theme for our reflection. When David became King, His palace or seat of power was in Jerusalem therefore he decided to set up a place for the Ark in His palace. The Ark symbolises God’s presence and blessings, for this reason, “… King David was told, “The LORD has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God.” So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing. (2 Samuel 6:12).
Beloved in the Lord, the key lesson of this reflection is that David realised that his kingship and kingdom could not succeed unless the presence or glory of God was with him. He used every means possible and every sacrifice that ought to be done to ensure that the Ark of God was brought to the seat of power. In other words, David was saying to God that “Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labour in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.” (Psalms 127:1). King David allowed God to reign over him and Israel when he brought the Ark to Jerusalem. Today, we do not physically need the Ark of God in our Chapels and houses to experience the glory or presence of God in our lives, all we need is to repent and believe in Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God and we shall experience the glory of the Lord. Jesus is the Ark of the New Covenant therefore anyone who calls on the name of Jesus shall be saved. By making Jesus our Lord and Savior, we are asking God to reign over our lives. Dear friend, is Jesus the Lord of your life? Are you living your life with Jesus, the Ark of the New Covenant? Remember, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:16-17) The purpose of the first Advent or the birth of Christ established the presence of God in our lives through faith, so that we will now have a personal relationship with God. God’s presence is no longer symbolised in the Ark of the Old covenant but is found in His Son, the Ark of the New Covenant. It is for this reason God said during the baptism of Jesus that “This is my Son, whom I love; with him, I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17). If we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, God will be pleased with us and His glory will never depart from us. Shalom.
PRAYER
Almighty God, grant us the passion of David to yearn for Your glory in our lives. Help us to earnestly seek a closer and deeper relationship with You so that we will always experience Your reign and presence in our lives. Amen.
