ADVENT REFLECTION
The enemy has destroyed everything is the theme for our reflection. The Psalmist laments to the Lord and calls upon Him to avenge the destruction of the temple and sacred place of worship by the enemy. This was probably the time of the Babylonian empire when they destroyed the temple. The Psalmist is heartbroken that the dwelling place of the Lord has been destroyed yet the Lord seem to be slow in dealing with the perpetrators. “How long, O God, is the foe to scoff? Is the enemy to revile your name forever? Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take it from the fold of your garment and destroy them! (Psalms 74:10-11)
Dear friend, the fact that the temple or sanctuary of the Lord is destroyed does not mean that God is destroyed. The enemy who destroyed the temple was an idol worshipper who erroneously thought that destroying the temple will adversely affect God or cause His power to diminish in Israel. Beloved in the Lord, idols can be destroyed but God cannot be destroyed or His power diminished by the mere destruction of His temple. We serve a living God who can be worshipped everywhere because “This is what the LORD says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be? Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the LORD.” (Isaiah 66:1-2). Our God is indestructible, the enemy may destroy everything but they cannot destroy the God who created everything, for He will in His own time replace everything the enemy has destroyed. Shalom.
PRAYER
Almighty God, in You we put our trust when the enemy destroys everything we have toiled for in Your name. You are our provider and sustainer even in times of challenges and scarcity. Amen.
