REFLECTION
It is not too late to find great joy. The three wise men from the east were on a mission to find the newborn King of the Jews and the Saviour of the universe. Initially, they found themselves at the wrong location but kept on following the star until they got to the actual place location where Jesus was born. “And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.” (Matthew 2:9-12)
Beloved in the Lord, nothing surpasses the joy of meeting and experiencing Jesus in our lives. The three wise men did not give up and returned to their country when they did not find Jesus at the first place, at King Herod’s palace. They kept on following Jesus’ star until it brought them to Jesus. In the same way, you may have been searching for joy elsewhere but it is not too late to find great joy at the feet of Jesus. During Christmas, many people feel or think they will find joy at places where there is drinking, eating and indulgence in sexual immorality but in the end that joy is short-lived. Some people get drunk and end up losing their lives through gory accidents, some contract sexually transmitted diseases while others become poor like the prodigal son because of reckless spending of their money. Indeed, some of the places the world perceives to be places of finding joy are actually places with unpleasant consequences, especially for our youth. These are places young people have become alcohol and drug addicts, prostitutes and victims of crimes. The good news is that it is not too late to find great joy in Jesus no matter who you are. When we find Jesus we find great joy and peace! Jesus assures us that “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. (John 15:9-11) Dear friend, in Christ we live, and our joy is complete in Him. Like the three wise men, let us not stop following the Star of Christ, which is also the light of Christ until we find Him and are filled with great joy. The Star of Christ in our time is the Word of God or the Gospel of Christ which is the light onto our path. If you have found Christ then cherish your relationship with Him and continually be filled with the great joy He brings into your life. Let us also share this great joy with other people by praying for them, sharing the Word of God with them and also sharing our blessings with them. Christmas offers us another perfect opportunity to radiate the great joy we find in Jesus Christ to the world as believers. Shalom.
PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help us to radiate and share the great joy we experience in our Lord Jesus Christ so that those who are lost will understand that it is not too late to find great joy in our Lord Jesus Christ. May the joy of someone be restored today through his or her faith and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
