REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “start small.” To start small is an encouragement to initiate a vision or goal in a manner that grows to an achievable and sustainable enterprise. Jesus used the analogy of the mustard seed and yeast as examples of things that start small but grow and increase to become productive and useful. He compares the mustard seed and yeast to the nature of the Kingdom of God in Luke 13:18-21 to indicate that the Kingdom of God may not be noticeable but it is expanding on earth and it will become a blessing to many who will yearn to become part of it. I believe when Jesus started a new movement and revival with the 12 disciples to bring many to God, many of His own people did not believe in Him but today the mustard seed Jesus planted and the yeast He placed into disciples have grown and increased into Christiandom. Believers are the citizens of the Kingdom of God which continues to grow and increase so long as the Gospel continues to be preached.
Dear friend, Jesus’ started small with 12 disciples and today we have millions of disciples. You may have a big goal to achieve this year but may not have all the resources readily available but like the mustard seed and the yeast, Jesus encourages us to start small with faith and action. You may not be doing well spiritually and morally but you can start small with prayer and with the principle, no Bible, no breakfast!. You will gradually become spiritually strong and matured to the glory of the Lord. When it comes to your business, employment and investments, take each day at a time and do your best, remember to always Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established. (Proverbs 16:3) Starting small can sometimes be frustrating and discouraging but “Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you. (Psalm 37:5), for He has assured us that “I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me? (Jeremiah 32:27). You might have failed or retrogressed last year but so long as God has given you life and the grace to see a new year, don’t give up! start small and start prayerfully, completely relying on God as you give it your best. Failure is not the end of life, it is an opportunity to start again in a different way and perhaps from another perspective with the experience gained in the past. You have so much deposited in you by God that you cannot fail, it is better to start small at your own pace than to rush, trying to compete with others and fail miserably. Remember you did not race with anyone to come into this world, you are certainly not racing with anyone to succeed. Success is defined by God and it starts from a humble and small beginning with those who trust the Lord and put their hands to work, Isaiah assures us that “…those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:31) Shalom.
PRAYER
Almighty God, bless our small beginnings and make us great. Amen.
