GOD’S WILL FULFILLED (COLOSSIANS 1:15-20)
REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is God’s will fulfilled. God’s will in today’s Scripture reading is God’s decisive action to save His lost or depraved creation through Jesus Christ. “For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. (Colossians 1:19-20) In other words, the fulfilment of God’s will is to redeem and reconcile us to Himself through Jesus Christ so that we shall experience the peace that comes from His salvation, Jesus assures us that “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)
Beloved in the Lord, it is refreshing and fulfilling to know that we are part of God’s plan and will to be redeemed from this lost world through Jesus Christ. The critical question is, is it your will for God’s will to be fulfilled in your life through Jesus Christ? When Zacchaeus welcomed Jesus into His house and heart and allowed God’s will to be fulfilled in life through repentance, Jesus declared to Zacchaeus “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:9-10). For God’s will to fulfilled in our lives we must be willing to welcome Jesus Christ into our lives through repentance and regeneration.
Dear friend as part of the fulfilment of God’s will of reconciling the world to Himself, He first saved us and has made us His agents of reconciliation and ambassadors on earth to preach the Good News or Message of reconciliation to those who are still behind the walls of salvation. For this reason, Paul makes a passionate appeal to the Corinthians that “… if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:17-21). May God’s will be fulfilled in the lives of others through our willingness to serve Him as His ambassadors and agents of His reconciliation through Jesus Christ our Lord in this lent season and beyond. Shalom.
PRAYER
Almighty God, strengthen us to submit to Your will through the hearing and studying of Your Word. May Your perfect will overcome our imperfect will so that we shall remain reconciled to you and be ready for Your Kingdom at the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
